IAS Officer Salary

IAS is the most sought after job in India. Huge number of people complete in UPSC exam for this category of posts. Many of such people may want to know about the IAS officer salary. They may be expecting huge salaries for IAS officers in India but that is not the case as they get similar salaries as other Group A officers who enter into central government jobs as direct recruits.

As per 6th pay commission the salary of IAS officer  at the entry level is sum of following components as on 01.01.2016.

Basic Pay: 15600

Grade Pay: 5400

DA @ 125%=  26250

HRA @ 30%= 6300

Transport Allowance =3200+3200*DA=7200

So, for metro cities like Delhi the Gross IAS officer salary would be equal to Rs.60750

Now you apply certain deductions which are mandatory in central government job as below

NPS=4725

CGEGIS=120

Net Salary of IAS officer =55905

Now the 7th pay commission report has been submitted to the government, the new salary of IAS officer with effect from 01.01.2016 is going to look like as under:

Basic Pay:56100

No Grade Pay as the this has been abolished in 7th Pay commission.

DA =0 as on 01.01.2016

HRA @ 24%=13464

Transport allowance=7200

Gross Total IAS officer pay as on 01.01.2016  would be equal to Rs.76946

Apply following deductions

NPS=5610

CGEGIS=5000

Net IAS officer Pay=66336 as per 7th CPC

So there is an increase of only 18%. The media is projecting this as a huge increase whereas it is not even 20% increase in the net salaries. One must remember that the pay commission comes after 10 years. In private sector you get about 20% increase in salaries annually.
